Jury Scam Reported in Vermont

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Please be aware a juror scam has been reported in Vermont, where victims are falsely being told they missed jury duty and must pay a fine or face arrest. Victims are being advised to purchase a prepaid credit card to satisfy the bogus fine.

While the scam reports have been limited to Vermont state courts, federal courts never ask jury candidates to provide sensitive information, such as Social Security or credit card numbers, or pay fines over the telephone. If you receive a call of this nature and the caller represents you have missed federal jury service (United States District Court), please contact the court Clerk's office at (802) 951-6301.
