At its March 2023 and September 2023 sessions, the Judicial Conference of the United States Courts approved inflationary adjustments to the fees on the District Court Miscellaneous Fee Schedule. These changes are effective December 1, 2023.

Most notably, the $52 administrative fee portion for filing a civil action, suit or proceeding in a district court, will increase to $55, thereby increasing the total filing fee for a new civil action from $402.00 to $405.00. The administrative fee does not apply to applications for a writ of habeas corpus or to persons granted in forma pauperis status under 28 U.S.C. § 1915.
